Top Ways to Keep Your Townhome Cozy for the rest of Winter

With the rainy winter weather hovering over the Seattle area, you may find yourself staying bundled up in the house more than usual to beat the bad weather blues. At Blue Fern Homes, we know that warm, sunny days feel like they’re too far away—which is why we’ve put together a list of ways to keep your townhome cozy and comfortable to help you get through the rest of the season.

Revamp your color palette

One of the best ways to kick the gloominess out the door is to bring warmth directly into your home using colors. Mustard yellow, burnt orange, rustic red and gold accents can immediately erase any melancholy vibes you may be facing. Whether it be a few throw pillows, wall decor, an area rug or a throw blanket—adding hues of warmth can make for a gorgeous addition to your home. To take it a step further, add olive green accents and house plants to bring the greenery of the outside in.

Layer up on bedding

A little extra warmth never hurts, and a great way to stay cozy in your home during the cold, rainy season is to bundle up with extra bedding. We probably spend more time in our bed than we should during low temperature days, and there’s nothing more comforting than a full, fluffy bed—especially one with maximum layers piled high with extra cushion. Incorporate those warm colors with an array of throw pillows and a blanket at the foot of the bed, and invest in a luxurious, cozy bedding set—like sherpa or down— to achieve utmost comfort.

Incorporate cozy lighting

Although the sun may not be shining too much these days in the metropolitan area, there are ways that you can have cozy, warm lighting without it. Sun lamps are trending exponentially right now, and it’s no surprise—after all, everyone needs the serotonin that sunlight provides, authentically or artificially. Not only can sun lamps improve your mood, but they can also be a great addition to the interior of your home. Invest in a sun lamp to illuminate your home with maximum coziness and ensure you’ll always have some sunlight to rely on—even on the rainiest days.

Add a reading nook

The wet Seattle winter makes for a prime opportunity to pull out your favorite reads or to discover new ones. All you need is the perfect spot to allow yourself to get lost in a good book for hours on end. Pick your favorite corner in your home, and with a little light from your sun lamp, a warm throw, a comfy chair and a side table for the occasional snack—you’ll reach reading nook bliss in no time. Regardless of what you may do to keep your home cozy this rainy season, the living areas in our Blue Fern Townhomes make for the perfect place to stay in and relax while we wait for warmer temperatures to arrive.
